Re: Bay View Gardens

Carolyn:

I know this is an old message I'm responding to, but I'm running late at
EVERYTHING these days. Regarding Louisiana Irises, I can't give you any
advice on what to look for since I've never lived in the cold north.
However, I will say that I had rot among my Louisianas this year...which I
attribute to cold weather. Several which I had in pots suffered
especially. I have had severe leaf damage on a few occasions in past
winters due to extreme cold (we never have snow cover here...for longer
than 2 or 3 days, that is)...but this year I actually had rhizomes that
froze and rotted. However, most of my Louisianas are growing lustily...and
a few bloom stalks are present. The point I'm making is that I lost a few
La.'s to freeze damage...and had I known what was coming, I'd have dug them
up and tried to rescue them. I'm not advising you to do that, I'm merely
commenting on my own situation. It's good to know that most of you
Louisianas survived.
