Iris verna

Hey everybody. I just wanted to share our excitement. The wild Iris verna
clump that we have on our property was in bloom last weekend, so my husband
brought out the camera to take some pictures. While he was wandering around
take pictures of the dogwoods and other things, he found ANOTHER large stand
of Iris verna in an area that we had cleared last winter.

Does anybody know how these spread in the wild? Somebody posted on the list
that this species doesn't set seeds. I've never seen anything that looks
like a seed pod on ours and they've never been vigorous bloomers, but I've
been afraid to disturb them. The clumps are pretty thick, certainly in
bearded I would have separated them by now. The new clump, while larger and
if anything more overgrown, has been partially buried by silt. Should I dig
it up, divide and replant?
