I like to use nursery markers on my iris...for recording pollination crosses.
My local nursery KNOWS who I am by now and will special order or "share"
things that they use for their business. The tags I am referring to are a
strip of some poly-plastic? about 6-7" long (I like either orange or yellow
'cause that shows up the best) with a "keyhole" on one end followed further
on down the strip by 1-2" by two staggered notches. I write on these tags
with a nursery marker then attach to the plant by looping the tag around the
stem and placing the tail portion through the keyhole...I like the notches
because as the pods swell you can loosed the tag and reposition if need be..
I have used these to tag plants temporarily...but then I come back and use
metal rose markers.
