Naming Iris

Carolyn asked:
>> are you aware of "restrictuions" or censorship of names? There are
regulations, of course, which might be interesting for everyone to know. Do you
officially "reserve" names? <<

The regulations fill the back of the registration form -- a bit too much to post
here. The four rules that most often rule out suggestions I get are:
1.	Can't duplicate a previously-registered name.
2.	Can't have more than 3 words.
3.	Can't have more than 10 sylables.
4.	Can't have more than 30 letters.

I haven't encountered any censorship myself -- perhaps because I haven't
submitted any truly questionable names -- but I assume that good taste is
expected. I _have_ had names rejected for use of slang, or jargon not in the
dictionary.

Reserving names is fairly common practice -- it just involves paying for the
name when you request it. I think you have up to five years to actually
register it, but I've never waited that long.
