Evening happy iris folks. My sweet Leonard let me bring his laptop to CA and
after a frustrating evening trying to 'figger' it out, I'm online! The
download is excrutiatingly slow (over an hour to get the mail and it would
not let me quit), but I'm tickled to be able to do it.
Weather here is glorious...they've had lots of rain so everything is day-glo
green. Sun is hot, air is cool. Perfect. Today we took 2 minivans to
Maryott's and Ghio's. Tomorrow there will be 5 buses going..so I'm glad we
took the early trip. The gardens (or at least those two) are not at peak
bloom - but there's still LOTS to see.
Bill Maryott has quite a place there...and very busy - and yet he's in the
middle of a little neighborhood! The talls are just starting to come on.
Joe Ghio is in an even smaller place...but every inch is in cultivation.
The LAs and spurias are in full bloom and I was impressed with a couple of
LA's I think I'll try...Rachel's Request..a lacy white with great substance
and Margaret Lee, very ruffled pinkish. Anyone have any comments on growing
either?
I also saw my first PCNs in bloom here. They are heartbreakingly beautiful!
Wish we could grow them.
I'm seeing lots of folks and passing out lots of "iris in cyberspace" pins.
Saw Clarence and Suky, Jim Wilson, Jay Hudson and a couple of others. I got
a message from Suzy Ewell, but she's in a different hotel, so I'll catch up
with her another time. Jay has scheduled the Geek Jamboree for Thursday.
Tom Little: Marilyn Harlow reports that she has been trying to get onto the
list but can't. I told her I would pass the word along to you and ask you to
get in touch with her about it.
By the way... this Region has put everything they've got into this
convention. I'm very impressed and it hasn't even started!
Later
Kathy Guest - currently of Sacramento, CA....... dude!
