Nell. In AIS, judges are trained in both garden and show judging. The
major shows are on the bench. The garden judging is an opportunity to
view the cultivation of iris to help decide what is a good grower in the
region SO that judges can vote the Official BAllOT -- a requirement for
remaining a judge. The OFFICIAL BALLOT is voted upon viewing iris in
several gardens over a wide geographical range over several seasons.
The training of an apprentice MUST include a session on garden judging with
a accredited judge along with training on awards in another session.
Kathy Guest is Region 2's Judge's Training Chairperson. She knows all
about these things.
As a potential judge, you should be after your RVP and local chairperson
to bring judges'training to your group and campaign for more and more
judges locally.
