And, Dave, and others:
I was thinking (this is a college campus after all) about whether
a discussion of DAHLIAS, and specifically Bishop of Llandoff is "proper"
for a group whose focus is IRIS.
Some of those thoughts were about
1. flower type -- classifying and naming
2. sources of specific cultivars
3. geography and historic folks and events
4. accuracy of photo captions in publications
5. companion plants
All of these things came up during the give and take. Some folks
might also ask these questions about IRIS -- but don'T!!! Is it because
they don't know the questions to ask? Haven't yet got to this or that
detail?
This forum should help folks ask questions about iris even if the way to
get to those questions is through some other -- flower -- or even topic.
Nobody has asked about how any IRIS cultivar got its name,or
how a hybridizer chooses a name for a cultivar of an iris. Could be a
good question since we have at least one hybridizer and access to thousands
of names.......
This LIST is an opportunity!!!
