Re: Rhizome sales

Debbie,

You asked about "dumping" rhizomes and the pricing of same at Society sales.

I can probably answer your questions better than most since we are members of
your local society - Virginia Peninsula Iris Society (formally Williamsburg
Iris Society).

The rhizomes that go in our sale come from the extras the members have when
they divide iris clumps and can't put them all back in the beds. Most of
these have names and are labeled. Very often pictures are available that show
what they will look like. At our sale we also have a table of ones that are
known for color but not name. These are sold at reduced prices, $1 to $2.
People interested only in color usually purchase these. Named iris usually
sell for $2 to $3.

You are invited to join the local society which meets the second Saturday of
the month at 2:00pm at the Williamsburg Regional Library. The May meeting
will be an Iris Show at the Outlet Mall in Lightfoot, Saturday, May 4, 1996.
Experienced iris growers will be on hand to answer questions on iris.
