Clarence:

If you haven't found borers in your iris leaves it just means that you
haven't been looking for them early enough.  I have slides that I use in
talks that show the borer both in the leaf and in the rhizome.  Start
checking by spreading the leaves out to the side like holding a deck of cards
and look for parts chewed out of the young tender inner leaves.
