Thanks Donald. I am starting a data base and will add all these
observations. I think late fall, after cold temps arrive will probably
be the best time to check for deciduousness. Pallida and her friends
seem to break "dormancy" here a lot earlier than the others (Wabash,
Sultry Mood, Earth Song, Windwalker) and pallida's stalks don't make it
most years, so it may take some more work to sort out the 'pallida
deciduous' from the 'aphylla deciduous'. So there would need to be a
second observation, as you have made, after pallida starts growing. And
it sounds like most places with winter snow cover get snow before it
gets cold enough for ANY to lose their leaves. Maybe I need to
stockpile a bunch of SULTRY MOOD and pallida over the next few years and
send one as a 'reference plant' to everybody willing to take notes.
Ouch $$. They seem to perform well most places in the country. Has
anybody had any poor performance from SULTRY MOOD? I bet Robert Turley
could kill both of them in Louisiana : )
