Extensive variation exists within the onco group, not only from one
species to another, but also among individual clones of a particular
species. Some characteristics, however, are common to many. "All"
oncos bloom on single-flowered stems, sometimes so short that the
species are true dwarfs. Most oncos have red-skinned rhizomes which
multiply from nipple-shaped increases; a few are stoloniferous.
