I have what has been identified as Spuria alba in my garden. The thing =
is thriving, but probably shouldn't be.
The original starts were dug from under a water faucet at my mom's =
place. Heavy (like concrete) alkaline soil, crammed into a 1 1/2' wide =
space between the house and the sidewalk (now growing under the =
sidewalk). She makes a point of dumping water on them whenever they dry =
out. Shade from the house is from 1pm on.=20
I dug the starts in the spring. Dumped them in the only open spot in the =
garden, watered once, then ignored them.=20
Our soil has tested at 5.6 to 5.8 ph. No amendments except what's =
produced at the barn and in the compost pile. Bed for this one is =
freshened IF I have the extra time... some years, I don't. Just divided =
them a few weeks ago (please don't correct me on this... It's what works =
in our area!). Did the same thing last year because of overcrowding and =
had wonderful blooms and nice full seed heads on all that were large =
enough.
Any chance that this thing is really a weed in iris clothing?=20
