There has been considerable prominence given by the media to today's press
conference in which the World Conservation Union announced the results of a
twenty year study indicating that 1 in 8 of all species of higher plants
are threatened with extinction. It is further reported that 32% (almost 1
in 3) of all naturally occurring species of Iridaceae (iris and irids) are
under threat of extinction. All of us who love iris should be considering
how we can help to reduce this threat.
