CULT: Herbicides

I have on hand a new book from Consumer's Union entitled "Pest Management
at the Crossroads." It's essentially a textbook of IPM (Integrated Pest
Management).

On p.2, one finds the statement:

"In the last decade, the number of weed species known to be resistant to
herbicides rose from 48 to 270, and the number of plant diseases resistant
to fungicides grew from 100 to 150. Resistance to insecticides is so
common--more than 500 pest species--that nobody is really keeping score."
