One really need not melt them down and make a Sauce Mousseline for the
asparagus to enjoy the full seasonal effect. Indeed, Peeps are usually
consumed solo, and without apologies, as snack or as petit fours. 

Here in Virginia we say that Spring has truly arrived when one can have
asparagus, shad roe, and strawberries in the same meal. The strawberries are
indifferent this season, and the shad ran early, so for our Spring supper
tonight Hall and I are having roast chicken with rosemary, wild rice with
mushrooms, a salad of watercress, belgian endive, capers and arugula, fresh
asparagus, and PEEPS!
