HYB: Fertility

Looks like I "won the lottery".

I've made many 1/4-bred X
1/4-bred crosses in the last
twentysome years, with nothing
remarkable to show for my efforts
until this morning. =

Try to picture this:

Standards -- fine violet veining
on white ground, held open by
strong mid-ribs. [I. paradoxa form]

Style arms -- golden yellow

Falls -- nicely rounded, greenish-buff
ground with large ruby overlay and
small near-black signal.

Hardly a conventional halfbred, but
with so many aril characteristics I
think there's a good chance that it
will prove fertile.

So this type of cross is definitely worth
trying -- even if you have to repeat
it for 20 years to get a "keeper".
