It may be too early to crow!

I promised a few I would report - success or failure - I saw a few bloom
stalks this weekend in zone 6! The perennial rye choked out any hint of
weeds and held the raised bed together through the rainy season, AND THE
RHIZOMES IN! Leaves didn't fall forever last fall, when they did, the fans
held some immediately around the rhizome, ergo the rye grass
over the rhizome was killed. Very few losses found so far - it is my
intent to let the increase rise to their preferred level without disturbing
the parent. Rye grass grew about 6" and arched over - so the
fans and rhizomes are getting lots of sun except what's covered with dirt.
I am just thrilled to see green fans rather than shriveled and rotted rhi's!
