Re: Dutch Iris Source question

Mail order from one of the Dutch bulb houses (Scheepers, Dutch Gardens,
etc.) is usually the most reliable source for true-to-name Dutch Irises.
For two reasons, these bulbs often get mixed up.

Growers raise the bulbs without blooming them. Thus if a 'rogue' gets into
the stock, it can be propagated indefinitely. Reliable growers
periodically bloom samples of bulbs from each variety to check for this.

In garden centers, bulbs may be offered in bins, and customers can get them
all mixed up very easily.

I know the feeling--last year I planted a mixed collection from a bag
bought at the local garden center, and all but one of 25 were white!

I'm waiting on bloom now from 5 varieties of the 'Beauty' series I ordered
from Scheepers (I think). We will see how true-to-name they are. The
plants are certainly the most robust Dutch Iris I have ever seen.
