OT:Bloom

At the invitation of Joe Spears, Ft. Worth Iris Society President, my
friend & I traveled to Texas to give their program last Thursday night. We
live about 40 miles north of Wichita Falls, Texas. The further south we
drove, the more bloom we saw. (The wildflowers were putting on a
spectacular show - bluebonnets, paint brush, etc.) We arrived at the Spears
home and what a sight. The bloom almost put my mind on overload. And they
have iris cut & in the house in every room! Donna grows JESSE'S SONG
beautiful. The color of it in their garden is so intense. Everytime I see
that iris somewhere else - I think that doesn't look as good as Donna's.
They were preparing for 2 thousand visitors to their garden on Saturday!
Driving by the front of their place, the bloom was spectacular. I'm
surprised they don't have a lot of traffic accidents.

At the Ft. Worth meeting, I had 3 surprises. Rusty introduced himself and
that was really nice to visit with him. I enjoy his post on this list so
much. I was pleased he learned something from my program to help him enter
his show. Really the best way to enter is to just jump in. You will learn
along the way. And congratulations on your ribbons, Rusty. You'll get
better & get more!

Mike's Mom brought me a miniature tea set decorated with IRIS. (This story
goes back to the PA Convention - when Diana grabbed the only tea set in
sight)

The third surprise came from Bob Alexander, Waco, Tex. He brought me a new
cross stitch pattern - iris of course.

Ft. Worth Iris Society has a large & friendly group. We enjoyed the trip
very much.

The next day we visited several gardens in the area; went to the Lenox
china outlet where we had heard rumors they were closing out an iris
pattern dishes. Yes, the trunk was loaded with iris dishes. Good thing I
didn't have a wreck. The broken glass would have cut us severly.

We traveled on to Austin to judge their show on Sunday. It was a beautiful
show. I met a few more people on the list. It was a very good trip.

We returned home Tuesday and as I headed to my garden, a terrible hail
storm hit. We didn't receive too much damage and I am enjoying more bloom
each day.

We will go back to Dallas Saturday for an all day bus tour. I know Argyle
Acres will be in beautiful bloom!
