Re: HYB: winter deciduous, ancestry - long, boring

Hello Linda Mann and Ellen Gallagher and all you wonderful Iris growers!

Yes, We do have a couple of tall bearded iris out of aphylla breeding
that are currently on the commercial market.

Our BOUQUET MAGIC '93 has light blue standards which are domed and
closed, semi flaring falls of maroon purple shading to a lavender
banded edge. It has dark yellow beards, is well ruffled and has a sweet
fragrance. The blooms are 4" wide and 3 1/2" high on multibranced stalks
averaging 30" tall. Pollen.

IN FLIGHT '95 is a vigorous lightly ruffled flared white with a yellow
beard. It has a slight sweet fragrance. It grows to 31". Pod fertile

CLASSIC IMAGE '95 is a border bearded plicata with outstanding form.
Wide light blue bands on the standards and falls with blue hafts and
style arms over a white ground. Sweet fragrance. Pollen

I'm studying a program on web pages and hoping to create one so I may
show you these facinating iris. Some hybrids loose their foliage
completely in the winter and sometimes in the summer. It depends on the
climate. Here in western Oregon usually only our aphylla species loose
their foliage in the winter. Our winters are quite mild. We do have
freezing weather in the winter but only for a few days. Very little snow
and it is usually wet. Our summer temperature rarely exceeds 100
degrees.

When we lived east of the Cascade Mountain range we had as little as 90
day growing season (if we were lucky) and 30 degree below zero weather
with 8-9 months of winter, then three months of hot dry summer.

We could always count on our aphyllas for bloom.

Several of our IB's have a liberal dose of aphylla. They range mostly
from 24" to 27" tall. They seem to thrive under adverse conditions quite
well.

Thank you for your interest. We grow a very wide range of colors and
fortunately, the aphylla carry very clean colors and when breeding with
them you can get any color now available in the TB's plus a few other
interesting patterns.

Those of you who are interested in hybridizing, come join us. The field
is wide open.
