L-ers,
I am glad we are still discussing reversions. I too, have heard the story of
how irises revert back to their original color however I have heard the
"purple" version. I have no clue as to how this could possibly happen in an
entire planting. Several days ago I noticed something odd in my MDB bed. I
have grown Invisible Ink for several years now. It is a white "glaciata" MDB
from Hager. It was named Invisible Ink because it came from plicata breeding
but shows no sign of plicata markings, not even haft marking. This year it
decided to show up as a plicata. On the center portion of the standards and
falls there is a blush of violet plicata freckling. I couldn't believe my
eyes. This has never, in all the years I have grown it, ever done this. The
clump was started with one rhizome, it has not been moved for at least three
years and all the rhizomes are all still attached. No chance of stray seeds or
rogues. Does Invisible Ink have a habit of doing this on occasion to anyone's
knowledge? It that why it was named Invisible Ink? I thought it was named
Invisible Ink because it was a "glaciata". I am confused. I need to lie down.
