Oh what a weekend, the first actual sunny one in our part of California.
We staged a two day event at a local nursery (free space), the chair person
was Sandy Mann. Since Sandy could not locate AIS judges (and we all tried)
we decided to proceed with the show but with the public doing the judging,
young, old and even some iris people. We had a little over 100 stalks,
mostly tbs. Well it was a BIG success and the public were very diligent in
their voting, they took time, looked twice, touched, smelled, changed how
the iris was set up, the whole while we watched and learned SO much about
the publics interest in IRIS. Small children accompanied by an adult were
the best to watch. They were also the ones (most honest) to share their
opinions. Saturday's winner was Bodacious which was sporting 5 open
blooms, Soul Sister had 4 open blooms and came in second. I think one of
the best things for those of us who participated was that we were not
UPTIGHT about REAL judges, gosh as nice as judges are, and we have had some
of the best in past years the pressure is still on to get done in time and
to help all those who bring their entries in 5 minutes before the cut-off
time. I will ramble more on the delights of our show later this week.
