Lorraine, I've heard that some west coast growers just slice the mother
rhizome down the middle to encourage the increase to develop. I wondered if
you are talking about the same thing? If so, do you slice them in the ground,
or do you lift them and slice and replant? I've wondered about the exposed cut
surface and soil pathogens, and also about the thing just growing back
together if it was left in place. If this slicing is done, does one do it
after bloom, or does one remove the stalk before blooming and do it then,
which would be my guess, or at another time?
