Re: CULT: Round-Up

In a message dated 98-04-22 15:43:00 EDT, you write:

<< BUT I DON'T SPRAY, I "dribble" -- I have a jug with a sort of swan-neck
tube on the end & I dribble Roundup liberally onto the fiends I want to
eliminate. If I find 'em in the rosette stage, I dribble right into the
center -- if they've already become tall plants, I thoroughly soak the
largest leaves &, if they're in flower, the blossoms. >>

I have two other suggestions for dealing with a noxious weed in an emergency
situation, or in very tight quarters.

First, if practicable, take a tea kettle of boiling water out to the weed and
pour this into the crown. Repeat. Repeat in a few days if necessary. Depending
upon the extent and vigor of the root system, this often does the trick. It is
very effective on weeds in cracks also.

When Round-up is necessary, to prevent drift try one of two things. First,
remove the bottom from a very large plastic soft drink bottle. Take the bottle
and the squirt bottle of Round-up to the plant, or plants, and put the bottle
over the plant, insert the squirt nozzle into the neck of the bottle, and
depress the handle. No drift even in tight quarters. Plant won't fit? Trim it
back and then cover it and squirt. Be careful when you lift the bottle because
there will be drips.
