Sorry I'm coming in a little late on this. I live in zone 5, but in a dry
high-altitude climate. I lost a few arilbreds this winter, but those were
in two-year-old clumps that were perhaps too densely grown. I didn't losing
any in the new planting.

Aril ancestry does not usually imply sensitivity to cold temperatures;
rather it implies sensitivity to summer moisture. TBs bred for several
generations in warm climates generally suffer more winterkill here than
arilbreds, or even pure arils! My recommendation is that you experiment
with a number of different varieties, just making sure that those of 1/2 or
more aril content have excellent drainage, lots of sun, and good air
circulation. Maybe in a couple years you can report on which ones did well,
and what seemed to cause problems (if any).
