Hi sun flower and asparagus grower.
Get the asp planted right away. They need a deep trench- at least 12" and some
added nutrients, cover and water. It grows wild by the ditch banks and along
the rivers in Idaho in the treasure Valley area at least so it does appeciate
a summer drink of water. I've seen Dorthea K Williamson grow nicely in simular
situations.
As for sun flowers, the bird seed variety which the birds missed have not
sproated yet so I would not plant them yet here. I don't live where you are
however, so wait until the soil is at least 50 degrees then put out a few as a
trail, or start them in the house.
