BLACK FALLS (Nebeker '96) TB velvet black falls (I don't see how they could
be any
blacker than this), dark, silky purple standards, beard half blue and half
black here.
Falls are flaring, but in this wind today can't be sure they wouldn't fall
a bit more. At
least they are holding up and not tearing, so the substance is good.
GOOD SHIP LOLLIPOP (McWhirter '98) TB a bonus plant this year. I'm not
very
current on describing colors on iris, but I'd call this one a smoky tan
self overall, with
orange beards. It's quite nice actually, uniformly ruffled and not getting
beaten badly
by the wind, so it has some substance. I'm curious to see the official
description as
I had no idea what it would be when it was sent. I assume Stockton Iris
Gardens will
offer it this year as an introduction and then you'll know how far off I am
on describing
it.
I forgot to mention the also blooming:
GOLD GALORE (Schreiner '78) TB
TITAN'S GLORY (Schreiner '81) TB
and
siberian SEA SHADOWS for which I only have the name. This has been the
surprise
iris for me since it was planted. I prepared a special bed just to try
SIBs and JIs, but
this one was an afterthought and I just stuck in the red clay over
limestone flower bed
and gave it no more attention than anything else there. Guess what? Oh
well, the best
laid plans o' mice and men and all that. It's on the fourth year now.
