think hens are a really wonderful idea for anyone who has the room--and
zoning-- for them.
Bantams are terrific for insect control in the garden. Larger hens
scratch everything up though. The main thing is they need plenty of
room. Their droppings are high in Nitrogen and you wouldn't want fresh
chopok manure all over your TB's. My problem here is that the dog loves
chooks as much as I do, but in a different way. To stop her from eating
them I would need a high fence around the irises, and one which couldn't
be dug under. Bantams fly fairly high so a fence atleast 7 foot,
probably higher is needed.
