Re: HIST: Irises and Soldiers--Stray Thoughts

I am going to save Anner's note about Irises and
Soldiers and add a stray thought of my own.

I have been in the US Army for almost 22 years,
12 years active duty the rest in the reserves. I
always
thought that TB iris survived on military posts
because they are as "GI proof" as any flowering
plant.

"GI proof" scenario:
First Sergeant to Private, "Takes these (TB
iris rhizomes) and plant them in front of the
orderly room." Private knows nothing of iris.
Digs hole and plants rhizomes several inches
deep like tulip bulbs. TB iris being TB iris
shrug off the abuse and grow any way.

Mozart gave us God's Laughter,
Beethoven gave us God's Fire,
God gave us Music that we might pray without
words."
