Re: CULT

First off, we are talking about the common field clover. But this as well as
henbit is not acceptable in the iris beds because of their nature to
inter-twine their little stems around and through the iris making it dificult
to get to the iris or to get the iris out of the bed. And as you mentioned
Walter, this stuff is real hard to get rid of. I was not asking about clover
or henbit as companion plants but whether we are
planting/cultivating/protecting our iris in a way that is healthy for the
iris by having only the iris in the beds. We have a couple of iris clumps
growing up and through these huge mounds of creeping phlox (TB's) and the
iris are healthy and sending up numerous bloom stalks. There is no way the
rhz's can be receiving air movement or direct sunlight but they are healthy!
These are obversations the local grower and I have both made this spring and
both of us were asking each other if maybe we aren't doing something wrong
having a monoculture! If the TB's are so sensitive they must have air
movement and direct sunlight then what are we seeing when they cannot receive
these yet are growing healthy?

I guess you all might say these are just idle thoughts and wonderings and I
may not be stating this correctly because I'm not sure yet what I'm asking!
