TB: Bloom Report-Zone 7

From: HIPSource@aol.com

Greetings,

Here in Virginia, USDA Zone 7, we have bloom today on CHANGE OF PACE
(Schreiner 1991), and ALCAZAR (Vilmorin 1910).

We spoke of the first here a couple of years ago, mentioning that it was
recommended to us by Clarence Mahan, and we reported its capacity to rebloom.

The mighty ALCAZAR is, of course, one of the preeminent irises of the first
years of this century. Very beautiful, very tough, and a legend in its time.

Elsewhere in the garden, the Aquilegia flabellata nana alba, the Viola
dissecta sieboldiana, the Convallaria rosea, the Polygonatum humile, the
Dicentra spectabilis alba, all the various epimediums, and the narcissus
Thalia are blooming. The fiddleheads and hostas are up, and the Yoshino
Cherry is just finishing bloom.

We are seeing an enormous number of aphids this year, especially on the
roses, and there are bumbles about.

I'm hoping for a beardless for the Dykes Medal this year. Seems like we
should have come that far by now in learning to appreciate the infinite
variety of the rainbow flower.
