  Hi,

Anybody got any neat ideas for hanging baskets or potted plants for patio's. Ideas for flower boxes. Like you see petunia's in. Been thinking of making a deep one of rock and putting small holed chicken wire on bottom to deter moles and voles. Anybody have a solution for these voracious monsters. They ate and iris rhizome. Never dreamt they would eat on. Just purchased it never got to see it bloom. I am on the warpath..... Need help......They always bypass the cheap stuff and eat the expensive plants. I bought a expensive hosta. Put it with the inexpensive ones. Couldn't believe it this spring when I found they had eaten it bypassing other hosta. Hope everyone is having a good day. Sure is hot..... Happy Gardening

Anner makes some excellent points in the article below, and from my
point of view, the four full-color bulletins you get every year are well
worth the price of a AIS membership. All those iris pictures, special
deals from the online AIS Gift Shop, articles about growing all kinds of
irises in all kinds of situations... Wow !

    Read on!

A message from Anner Whitehead, AIS Membership Secretary.

    ----------------
    Greetings!

This is a special message for all Iris fanciers who have never been
    members
    of The American Iris Society.

Have you been considering joining AIS? Perhaps thinking that it would be
distinctly advantageous to position yourself to get some real insider
    info
about irises and iris nurseries as well as the informed lowdown on iris
culture, not to mention meeting other gardeners who share your special
fondness for the Rainbow Flower and receiving the fine quarterly AIS
    Bulletin?

Well, the AIS Membership Office wants you to know that for two reasons
    right
now is absolutely THE BEST TIME to take the plunge. You see, a unique
    and
highly attractive window of fiscal opportunity has opened. We shall explain:

First: If your dues are received in the AIS Membership Office before 30
September 2001, you will receive the special Bonus which AIS gives those
    who
join for the very first time at midyear. This is------drum roll------
    free
membership for the remainder of 2001. Thus by paying for an Annual
membership, you would actually get membership for the rest of this year,
    plus
    all of 2002.

Second: Dues on all Annual AIS memberships (except Youth memberships)
    are
going up $2.00 on October 1, 2001. BUT if you get your check, money
    order, or
charge card info--we take MC and Visa--into the hands of the AIS
    Membership
Secretary before 1 October, you can still join at the lesser rate.

Of course, if you are ready to commit, the truly cunning move is to sign
    up
now at the Triennial rate. Triennial rates offer great savings and they
    are
not going up this year. As a new member joining for three years before
    30
September you would also get our Bonus, so that your new membership
    would not
    expire until December 2004.

Why not examine the full dues schedule on the AIS page and compare the
figures yourself? Note that Canadian residents pay at the US rates, not
    Overseas rates.

As you can see, now is a prime time to check out AIS. But remember, this
window of opportunity won't be open long, and postmarks don't count!

If the AIS Membership Office can answer any questions for you, we invite
    you
to contact us directly. Now or in future, the welcome mat is always out
    for
    you.
