Some time back, there was a discussion here as to the quality of irises
specifically introduced as bonuses. We discovered that quite a number of
Schreiner bonuses had won awards. INDIGO PRINCESS has an AM.
But, there are other suppliers who are introducing irises as bonuses
that are definitely inferior irises, and you don't know it until
you've bought it by accident and it blooms (or doesn't) in your
garden or you got it as a gift. It becomes a rude awakening when
you've bought a bonus iris and the introducer didn't list it as such
and it is of the inferior type.
A poor bonus iris would be poor business. An iris that you wanted be seen by
a lot of judges would be good business as a bonus.
