That is what they are called here in Aus, but I have also heard the pink
Crocus which blooms before the leaves emerge, called by the same name.
Belladonna means 'beautiful lady' and comes from the fact that atropine used
to be extracted from the plant and used to dilate the pupils to make
beautiful ladies even more attractive.
For some reason I always associate the name with nerines. Have these also
gone by the same name?
