Nancy, one of the few things I have done after the rhizomes are planted is
to spray with "fung away" or "cleary's 336F" which seems to slow the rot
down a bit but does not eliminate it. This type of rot usually occurs here
in the early early spring when temps are swinging more than usual. I have
found that the"fung away" worked better than the cleary's at slowing an
existing outbreak. But I think that alternating the products might be best.
Some rot I am experiencing right now is (I think) the softer summer rot and
is because I've let some of my pots get too hot. That is my own fault but
there just aren't enough hours in a day. If your new plantings were in the
hottest sun, you might try some type of shade until they can get established
a bit and the weather cools.
