I'd like to add to John's and Randy's comments about Keppel's
HAPPENSTANCE. The purple leaf bases are pale and seem to come and go
with the season. Right now, with the hot, dry weather, the color has
vanished.
The branching and bud count are superb. I don't get as much ruffling
as Keith shows in his catalog, but HAPPENSTANCE is by far the best
pink I am currently growing. I just got his new KITTY KAY which I
expect to be even better.
Garden visitors ooh and aah over Happenstance. It makes quite a show
and is really beautiful. I'm glad L. Baumunk sent it to you. He did
you well!
The only negative I have noted here is that I have had somewhat more
softrot problems with Happenstance than many others. That probably
is just a matter of where I have it planted. Another plant in a
sunnier, hotter location has no problem at all and grows very well.
It is fertile both ways and can throw VERY large pods. The seedlings
are especially vigorous.
