Re: HYB: Tough pinks

HAPPENSTANCE isn't quite tough enough to thrive here, but has such a
pretty flower, and it did bloom the first year (stalk set at Keppel's)
unprotected after a hard late freeze that knocked out all the bloom on
my unprotected seedlings.

SATIN SONG looks like one I'd like to try - parent SWEET MUSETTE
actually survived and bloomed for me this year (after 3 or more tries
that rotted) and does well in other gardens in this area.  I have some
seedlings from SM that are thriving.  The other parent STAR STUDDED also
has some tough ancestors.  Thanks for posting the parents, Ellen.

HUNTER PINK was sent as part of our club purchase last year and this
year - I will see if I can find out how it's doing for whichever club
members have it.  Parent ANNA BELLE BABSON has been an erratic performer
here and I think it may have finally died, but did do well in some
years.  PINK ATTRACTION didn't last, but did live awhile for me and was
in a particularly bad location.  So this one is also promising.  Thanks
for posting the parents, Mary.

OCTOBER SPLENDOR was splendid this year - it has been a nice tough
grower and has even grown enough to dig for our club sales.  It's only
faults are that it blooms too early and too late to avoid being damaged
or stalks killed by freezes, it's short (BB) and the standards are
open..

I'd love to babies from OS and HAPPENSTANCE.

One of these days I'm going to order the 2000, 2001, & 2002 R& I's!
