Well Walter, I have to weigh in on this one. You are
well aware that your intros do extremely well in this
'chill in the north' climate. Ok, LEMON CHESS is a shy
bloomer for me or has been..I have another cultivar of
L.C. to experiment with now. :-)
To keep on with this 'east of the Cascades' thread:
Marky's Smith's gorgeous intros have all (!) taken a
nose dive in my garden. I am still trying to figure it
out. I hesitate to say parentage but lean toward the
climate (arid, alkaline) where it was selected. Just
guessing. I have lost at least four intros of hers. I
have just so-so luck with Aitken's intros.
But with Walter's from northern Mississipi, never lost
a one and they all bloomed well except for LEMON CHESS
(bloomed but not great). If only those Michigan and
Maine Siberians would bloom like Walter's bearded ...
(sigh)
Ellen (bug-eaten from dividing irises in the high
humidity and heat - ok, only 86 F not 112 but still
hot for this northern girl (I used to live in North
Carolina.. so be careful)
Ellen
