This seems like a good place to make a post I was going to today
anyway re. freezing seeds.
My question: does duration of leaving seeds in a freezing medium
make a difference?
This year I planted my first seeds in pots in wet potting soil and
put them on my lower refrig. shelf above the vegetable bins. When I
took them out the next day to flush again with water, I found they
had frozen, as had the water that had gathered in the ice cube tray
they sat in.
I ran more water through them, but that didn't seem to make a lot of
sense. So I just kept testing them, found them still frozen, so a
week or so later I planted the pots into my seedbed outside, hoping
the freezing had done its stratification job and they should sprout
soon, getting big enough by winter to last, as we get frosts but no
hard freezes in winter here.
My question again: Does it matter how long one leaves them frozen?
Aren't they inert once frozen, so length of time wouldn't make a
difference?
