Hello All,
Bill (I think it was Bill) asked within the last week or so for a list of
my survivors - a request I spaced out until today. Sorry about that.
Here's the first installment.
Some background explanation - out of 365 named iris cvs last fall,
including all bearded classes plus a few beardless species and Sibs (but
mostly TBs), I lost a total of 181 cvs (almost all TBs) either over
winter, during the spring transition, or later in the growing season this
year.
The following list is divided into 4 rather loose categories, as you will
see. This list represents only the TBs growing in my rebloomer beds. The
rebloomer beds are located in a sheltered area on the south side of my
house in full sun. The beds are raised, heavy clay heavily amended with
sand (LOTS and LOTS of sand), gypsum, and well-aged horse manure. At
this point, the "soil" is quite sandy in texture. Almost all new irises
added to those beds in '01 succombed over the winter, but almost all
established clumps survived, and many bloomed.
The majority of my TB losses were in the main beds which are not
represented in these lists. I can provide similar lists of the few
survivors in the main beds later, if there's interest.

treatment)

think)

SURVIVED WITH SMALL CLUMPS OF AT LEAST 3 FANS BUT NO '02 BLOOM

Gypsy Woman
Autumn Thunder (really got kicked back by winter but is still hanging in
there)
Immortality (the clump in the main beds with less light and heavier soil
is healthier and larger but has never bloomed)
Beverly Sills (another 4 yr old who has never yet bloomed)
Sign of Leo
That's it for the rebloomers. There are a few more TB rebloomer
survivors, but they made it through with only a fan or two.
