Last time I saw one of them holes, I sprayed Raid inside the hole.
I'm sure it killed any larvae inside or those little caterpillars that
were
eating my seeds like a corn borer eats an ear of corn.

This is how long I leave them, at least you know for sure that they are
mature.
Picking early, then you have to wonder, did they fully develop?
