Wabash is similar to the ones I'm talking about, but it qualifies as a full
fledged tetraploid TB. I think it has a lot of the same ancestry as the
somewhat smaller diploids that resemble it though.
Here's a partial but moderately long list of the ones I'm thinking of, should
give a pretty good idea of which ones I mean. I suspect that nearly all are
diploids. Botanically I would call most of them I. x sambucina (hybrids of I.
pallida and I. variegata), but that can cause confusion for those not used to
thinking of them from a taxonomic / botanic point of view, and rather as
individual entities (sambucina is also the name of an individual cultivar - or
group of similar cultivars). In my lists, I've taken to calling them "x
sambucina" or "large MTB". They vary as to the classes in which they
officially registered, and I have not kept track of that in this list. Some
may not really belong to this group, but most fit together well as a group,
and are rather uncomfortable in other groups (at least I think so).
