Cindy,

You might consider trying Rhoeas poppy. They come in a range of colors and
reseed easily. They're also easy to get rid of if they come up in the wrong
spot.

They're about 1-1 1/2 feet tall in the sandy, neglected (unwatered) part of
the garden this year.
