My two cents worth. I usually plant approximately 25 seed per mum pot,
adjusting the number to fit the situation. I water with Miracle Grow about once a
week until they are planted out. That's if I get them out that spring. If
delayed, the watering is usually neglected after mid May.
My best year of germination came when I dug trenches that allowed me to bury
the pots about half way. This assured that the bottom of the pots stayed moist
throughout the winter and early spring. Now that I have my own land again, I
will return to this practice. The spot where the pots were kept had morning
sun only and was protected from the afternoon sun. Just where they happened
to be, but it may have made a difference. I won't be able to duplicate that
portion as I have NO trees.
