I am redoing some gardens before the snow flies here....it was
39 F (4 C) degrees here this morning. It was in the low 40s last
evening (6 C) so Fall is here in the North Country.
Neil mentioned using gypsum as a soil additive for bearded
irises. I looked up gypsum and found that borax is 'similar'.I
was thinking about using that since I have a box of it in my
laundry room or is that just too weird but I use Chlorox and
Comet..my husband says next thing I will try some Wisk (laundry
detergent) on the garden and give those irises a real workout.
;-)
Borax is a naturally occurring mineral and where the soil
happens to be more alkaline than mine which can only be good for
bearded irises.
Ellen (who still cannot access any of hort.net archives to check
on the previous years' posts... thinking that Mallorn is now
using XML in the mix but maybe not - he hasn't answered my
e-mail and I have just about given up and missing Yahoogroups'
archives for iris-talk)
