Re: Re: CULT: Borax as soil additive?

boron toxicity is more likely to be a problem than boron
insufficiency. I think the amount I was supposed to use was
something like one pound per acre, which translated to less than
a teaspoon for the entire area I had planted in corn. I mixed
it with wood ashes or cornmeal or something relatively inert to
make sure I spread it properly. >>>

Forget the borax: Linda mentioned wood ashes ... those I have
plenty of: a whole chimney crammed full that needs to be emptied
this week. Will work that into the soil along with compost and
also some gravel and sand (it works here helping drainage with
all the rain). I do plant most of the gardens in raised beds and
the bearded iris are always raised.

She also asked how I got borax and gypsum somehow connected - I
dunno maybe because of the following links that Mrs. Sherlock
followed?

Link to gypsum:

http://mineral.galleries.com/minerals/sulfates/gypsum/gypsum.htm

from this gypsum page:

>>> Associated Minerals are halite, calcite, sulfur, pyrite,
_borax_ and many others <<<

Link to borax:

http://mineral.galleries.com/minerals/carbonat/borax/borax.htm

But I locked onto the Tarid regionsU stuff in this page thinking
that bearded irises would really dig this stuff plus I have
pounds of it already for my laundry. Maybe it would turn my
Tirises into whiteU syndrome? :-)

I received LindaUs post in two mailboxes (subscribed to Mallorn
twice...) and didnUt get my post re borax at all anywhere.
