I'm no pro at growing these, but years ago I used to pick the pods off
Spurias (mostly I. monnieri, I. orientalis, I. crocea sort of things, and
an unknown light blue one, a tad shorter than the others) and planted them
very shallow in pots on the front porch (south-facing, due to some Elm and
Pecan trees - lots of shade in summer, lots of sun in winter). The seeds
generally came in one big rush after the weather got warm in the early
spring. Percentages were fairly good. None ever came up when first
planted, but some would wait to come up two and even three years after I
planted them (always several came up at the same time though). The pots
were big pots with other plants in them (such as Dracaenas and soft
Yuccas); they never got quite below freezing, but it was cold at night and
cool in day. So, they got mild stratification, definitely got watered.
