Laurie, thats what makes this list and discussions so fantastic....we
have few standards we have to know and we encourage anyone to chime in
and ask questions. Your intentions sound good but I like the
unstandardized version. Hopefully the resulting open discussion spreads
some new ideas or information to all of us. I personally haven't used or
heard the term "back" for the top of the rhizome very often but it isn't
that hard to figure out. I also do not plant those "backs" level with the
ground. So I think that a standard set of definitions should really be a
picture and label it in latin if you'd like...its still the same old
rhizome; culture and terminology will vary with the region. Lets keep
asking questions and discuss the intentions. Does that make any sense?
Can you tell I distrust "standardization" and rigid guidelines in
relation to home gardening, and sorry, I didn't mean for this to sound
like a whine!!(it really isn't)  Happy garden!
