Re: Re: ID'ing unknowns

Linda, I've often wished for the same thing (i.e., send pictures to somebody
for identification) but when I think how hard it is to i.d. anything even
when seeing it "in the flesh", also knowing how pictures so often don't show
the true colors, I fear we are wishing in vain. I really wish I could have
some expert come into my garden when it's in bloom and do at least some of
those i.d.s for me. Alas, my nearest thing to a resident expert in my area
was Larry Harder, and he's gone now. Besides, even he was at a loss for the
names of some of my things. I finally gave up hope of ever getting the names
of some of them, so this year when I dug and divided I just gave away all the
rhizomes of a dozen or so varieties. I decided I just hadn't room for
everything, and I'd rather have things growing in that space that I liked and
knew. I still kept some unknowns, though, which I like well enough to give
them a place even without their names.
