Re: CULT: ?huge vs small rhizomes


I think many things are factors.  Heat, cold, moisture, fertility and 
structure of the soil, and of course the cultivar itself.

I tend to always get small rhizomes in New Mexico when I grow in my near 
native soil, no matter how much water the plants get.  However, in a rich 
compost with a bit of shade and just enough water (they rot with too much 
in the summer heat) I get much larger rhizomes on the same cultivars (but 
not nearly so many flowers).
